A Dinner, a Former Client, and a 20-Year Reflection…
Last night, I had dinner with a former client — actually, one of Trier’s very first. A client who helped anchor Trier as a credible, values-driven PR/Marketing agency.
On the drive home, I found myself reflecting on nearly 20 years in this industry. And one thing stood out above everything else: the relationships.
I’ve learned that working with a client isn’t just a transaction or a project timeline — it’s a relationship built piece by piece, conversation by conversation. It’s trust earned over time, not assumed on day one.
Some of my most meaningful career moments didn’t come from big launches or perfect decks. They came from:
• the late-night problem-solving calls
• the honest conversations when something wasn’t working
• the shared excitement when a new idea finally clicked
• and the sense of “we’re in this together” that only true partnership brings
I’ve come to realize that partnership means showing up for each other — for clients and for the team — not just to deliver, but to listen, understand, challenge, and support. It means caring about their wins as much as your own. It means knowing the people behind the titles and the goals behind the briefs.
And at the core of every meaningful partnership is integrity and respect — the quiet, consistent behaviors that build trust. It’s being honest when the easy thing would be to avoid discomfort. It’s choosing transparency, keeping your word, and treating people the way you want to be treated. Those values are what turn working relationships into long-term partnerships.
Twenty years in, I’m grateful for every client who’s trusted me enough to treat me as a partner, not just a vendor. Those relationships have shaped my career, elevated Trier’s reputation, pushed me to grow, and reminded me why I love this work.
Here’s to the clients who feel like collaborators, the projects that feel like shared missions, and the next chapter of building relationships grounded in trust, integrity, and respect. 🤝✨
